—LP151 & IMANI INTERNATIONAL—
A COLLABORATIVE FUNDRAISER TO BRING TRAVEL AND ART TO THE STUDENTS AT King/Drew Magnet High School of Medicine and Science, LOS ANGELES
OUR GOAL: $20,000 TO SEND 15 STUDENTS AND MEMORALIZE THEIR EXPERIENCE
CREATING LEADERS AMONG US
Travel acts as a mind expander and opens up possibilities never imagined before. Suddenly the world feels unified and you feel apart of it, knowing your place within it, and how you can support and spread Love, Unity & Freedom.
That’s what we are offering to 15 students by sponsoring a Bay Area cultural tour to gain skills that will be with them for a lifetime that will act as the seeds of optimism and opportunity for their communities and their impact on our world.
With a Bay Area Culture Explosion, we'll be changing the lives and course of history for fifteen Los Angeles inner-city youth by sending them on a trip of a childhood.
These kids will be given the opportunity to stretch out of their comfort zones. By trying new foods, participating in new activities, seeing the world from a different cultural lens, traveling like a local and not like a tourist, these kids will begin to understand a bigger perspective on themselves and the world around them.
Planes, buses, boats, trains, bikes, and walking — all part of the experience that broadens horizons and builds problem solving skills.
Additionally by staying in a hostel, the kids will be exposed to a new way of traveling, one that supports world exploration and will ignite and inspire conversations with tourists from all over.
Inner-city youth have imaginary boundaries that are defined by race, gender and socioeconomic status. IMANI works to break down those barriers by exposing high school students to experiences where the students learn about new concepts and ways of thinking through travel, finances, activism, social justice, interpersonal relationships, self-development, scholarship, life skills, etc., all of which promote emotional intelligence, interdependence, responsibility, accountability, open-mindedness, empowerment and working as a collective.
THE EXPERIENCE WITH THE WONDERWALL
CREATING A LEGACY WITH A MURAL IN THE COMMUNITY
ART INSPIRES. IT BRINGS COLOR, JOY, AND THE FREEDOM TO DREAM TO THE COMMUNITY
After the 4-day trip, we're encouraging these our students to bring their experience alive with artwork that will be on display forever. A wall within the Watts community, near the high school, will feature visuals from the trip and feelings associated with it. Artists will help the students realize these images and put them on display for the community to celebrate for years to come.
